Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.

The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, facing charges for the attack.

He was previously accused of attempted murder but following the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.

Police Response

The force said officers would be in the downtown area on Monday providing public assurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, trainers with a backpack.

The knife attack occurred near the Bullring shopping centre, across from the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.

Eyewitness Reports

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, described the emergency response when she finished her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, and said co-workers reported hearing a commotion around 9 PM.

"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Another individual, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern about what had happened.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
