Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Victorious Performance at Athlos in NYC
The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.
The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the global championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
