Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
