Students Share Concerns That Artificial Intelligence Is Eroding Their Learning Capabilities, Study Reveals
As per recent investigation, students are expressing worries that utilizing artificial intelligence is eroding their capability to engage academically. Numerous report it renders schoolwork “effortless”, while a portion argue it restricts their original thinking and impedes them from learning additional competencies.
Extensive Utilization of Artificial Intelligence By Learners
A study looking at the utilization of AI in British schools found that only 2% of learners between the ages of 13 and 18 stated they did not use artificial intelligence for their studies, while 80% indicated they consistently used it.
Negative Impact on Abilities
In spite of artificial intelligence's widespread use, 62% of the students said it has had a unfavorable impact on their competencies and development at their educational institution. 25% of the participants affirmed that artificial intelligence “enables me to obtain answers with minimal personal effort”.
Another 12% reported artificial intelligence “hinders my original thought”, while equivalent percentages reported they were less prone to address issues or compose originally.

A specialist in machine learning commented that the research was among the first to analyze how students in the United Kingdom were incorporating AI into their academic pursuits.

These discoveries correspond to scientific analyses on the usage of artificial intelligence in academics. One study evaluated brain electrical activity during written assignments among participants using AI models and found: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”
Nearly half of the two thousand pupils questioned said they were worried their peers were “surreptitiously utilizing AI” for studies without their instructors being able to spot it.
Call for Guidance and Positive Components
Many respondents reported that they desired more guidance from instructors for the proper use of artificial intelligence and in assessing whether its output was trustworthy. A program aimed at assisting educators with AI guidance is being introduced.

Just 31% indicated they didn’t think AI use had a unfavorable impact on any of their abilities. But, the bulk of students said using artificial intelligence assisted them acquire additional competencies, including 18% who reported it helped them understand problems, and 15% who stated it assisted them come up with “new and better” ideas.
Learner Perspectives
When asked to elaborate, a 15-year-old girl remarked: “I have been able to understand maths better and it helps me to solve difficult questions.”
At the same time, a boy aged 14 claimed: “I process information more rapidly than in the past.”
